Camel + leather...

...in this tricolour of shades is really alluding to a woman of The Kooples or maybe Isabel Marant variety. What are your matches-made-in-heaven when it comes to outfit components?

Sings: 'You were always on my mind'...

clement2

Hey Clement. Maybe it's repeated exposure, maybe I'm a creep. But I think we are all allowed fan out admire now and again. Good for the mind and good for the soul. Either way, here's the man of the moment, in my books at least.

Who's your model du jour? I must know.

Lanvin

A glorious and exaggerated, albeit slightly unsettling, redefinition of the silhouette at Lanvin. I think I would feel really safe in these pieces - they kind of make me think of structurally sound buildings. Lots of stimulating geometric references lead me to believe that there's definitely something architectural in the air.

Begin as you mean to go on?...

Valentino copy

...I do hope so.

Definitely my favourite of the offerings so far. Probably my 'best in show' though. This kind of makes me think of the Jil Sander collection that everybody loves but more accessible. Brooding colours, boxy shapes on top of skinny legs, ties all around. And - not to undermine the genuine originality, innovation, and general greatness of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli here - any show that features Clement Chabernaud twice has me smitten.

She does have a left hand...

IMG_5287

IMG_5288

...don't you worry. But so what if she didn't?

At any rate, loving the flow-y everything here. That skirt is just perfect, how its tone seems to change as your eye travels down its almost ridiculous length. Battered boyfriend jacket via Armani is fighting in the best way possible with a sheer-enough and semi-bedazzled top. Bee-stung lips and impossibly long, awesome hair rivaled only by that skirt are the cherries on top. Done.

Oh, such fun...

pup1

pup5

pup2

...there's something really grown-up about the structure of this outfit - slacks, a long wool coat, sensible shoes, et cetera, but when you take into account the finer details like print and colour, any air of stuffiness that might exist on paper is gone, gone, gone.

P.S. I really would not mind having that sweater in my wardrobe.

Like a moth to a flame...

geof

...is me, when it comes to spying a woman shrouded in black about town. Head down behind a hat that screams 'don't wear while driving' and I am only going to be more intrigued - these hats do the complete opposite of any kind of disguising. I lurked around the shoe shop she was in for a good ten minutes until she was finished. This is an all-access pass to the gritty life of a street-style photographer.

A lot of fantastic things going on here, that collar and wonderful watch for two. Gold accents galore for another. I spy a star-print dress beneath the coat, too. Although I can't verify, is someone on our shores actually wearing one of those Dolce and Gabbana numbers from last season?

Shoplifted...

bufffull

buffhs

buffshoes

...I lurked around looking really goddam weird before I nabbed this girl from the shop she was working in for a quick snap. I go to a place across the street for food (and the relatively decent selection of fashion magazines) now and again (but for how much longer, I ask, sadly), and I can't help but notice this well-dressed gem most of the time I step outside. I'm glad the double espresso I had moments before gave me the jolt I needed to psych myself up.

I like how she manages to play down a pair of gold drainpipes. Like, who can pull them off never mind do that? Between those and her lurex socks, Christmas and all its sparkle sort of remains a fond, not-too-distant memory. Lining of the coat-fit-for-the-country works really well with them too. That ace haircut seals the deal.

There's something romantically Parisian...

IMG_5206

....about cute long dresses, bikes, neck-scarves, and a sort of vintage, care-free and bohemian Rive-Gauche aesthetic. Until it dawns on you that you're on smelly and traffic-laden George's Street. At least this girl's whimsy can transport you for a second.

Not enough of the D-word...

Clarendon

clarendon2

...I don't know if its infinite casual connotations are an advantage or an affliction, but nobody could possibly deny the durability, dependability, and indestructibility of our humble denim friend. I, for one, don't throw it into the spotlight very often at all around here. Despite all its modern-day re-hashings in terms of cut, colour, and coating, the wardrobe stalwart is definitely a best friend for most.

This look is more casual than what I try to show mostly, but I wouldn't have stopped this girl if I didn't really like it. As an example of how to dress in this mild-one-second-Baltic-the-next weather it's grade-A. I really like that exact length of the white shirt in proportion to the vintage looking mohair-alike. That coat, that hair, and that unbeatable haze that the Dublin sky offers up now and again all work together just fine.

Denim. Take a moment to appreciate one of the most dependable and hardworking mates you've got. How do you wear yours, in terms of the three Cs above?

Even though nobody in the industry really gets...

long

...what the heck 'pre-fall' is actually meant to be, I'll not lie, I'm really rather taken by the long, lean lines as above.
Favourite look? That first Lim on the left there. What's yours?

2012...

Schmitten

First and foremost, have a happy one. I have had more important things to do than loiter around this blog during the last while, like hang out on the tops of mountains in Austria that leave you feeling truly humbled and exhilarated and just thankful for life, and really happy to be able to be part of a landscape that demonstrates there are pockets of jaw-dropping natural beauty on this earth. I like to think, maybe if ready-to-wear permitted, granted, that I could live a really content existence in this kind of wilderness forever more. With the best air and a view like that to boot, don't tell me you wouldn't try it either.

P.S. Hopefully lots of photos worth posting to come out of the five rolls of film that I have accumulated for developing.

P.P.S. Normal fash-transmission to resume soon enough, rest assured.

A Kate Brangan Christmas...

image

image-2

image-1

...my parents, brother, and I always exchange Christmas cards around now, before the big day, so when I saw these cool cats designed by Kate Brangan, I couldn't resist. They're a welcome respite from your typical Hallmark construction that features some awkward joke at the expense of a reindeer or whatever. I was drawn to the simplicity of these designs, sitting strikingly on a plain white background. Top-notch work like this doesn't need any bells and whistles. The blank interior is also perfect for writing your own rambling message, like I like to do. The first one above was for my Mum, and actually contains a glued in plum-pudding recipe - the sweetest touch ever. The second and third were for my brother and Dad respectively. This was also, sadly in a way, my main effort at buying Irish this year, but something is better than nothing, I guess.

Kate has also created work for Movember, Upstart, The Merrion Hotel, and the Dublin Flea. If you want a more-original-than-usual Christmas card this year, you can find her wares for sale in Article in the Powerscourt Centre on South William Street. See her extensive body of really great work here.

...here are the results of what Cameron and I have been working on. Helped along by converging musical, aesthetic, and cultural taste, we worked closely throughout, and needless to say we're proud. From the get-go, this has been the most organic meeting of minds - we both had a distinct vision of what we wanted to achieve, and we definitely realised it.

Pre-orders are being taken tomorrow, and the release date will be early in January 2012. Do all of the above here.
